How a pharmacy vaccination visit works
- A brief screening. A pharmacist reviews your vaccination history, allergies, and any current health conditions before administering a vaccine.
- The vaccine itself. Administration takes just a few minutes, at the counter or in a private consultation area if you prefer.
- A short observation period. For some vaccines — especially a first dose of anything new to you — you may be asked to wait a few minutes afterward, a standard precaution and not specific to any one vaccine we carry.
- Documentation. We can provide a vaccination record for your own files or for an employer or school, and we report administered vaccines to the state immunization registry as required.
Eligibility and prescription requirements
Most of the vaccines listed above are available to adults 18 and older without a prescription under Connecticut pharmacist prescriptive authority. There are exceptions — some vaccines may require a prescription for patients with certain health conditions, and not every vaccine is appropriate at every age or for every medical history. Eligibility and prescription requirements vary by vaccine and by patient, so ask our pharmacist which ones make sense for you rather than assuming a blanket answer applies.
Insurance and cost
Most major insurance plans, including Medicare Part D and Part B for eligible vaccines, are accepted — ask at the counter and we'll check your specific coverage before you're charged anything. If a specific vaccine isn't covered by your plan, we'll tell you the out-of-pocket cost before administering it, not after.
