Why work at an independent pharmacy
Arrow Pharmacy is an independent, community-focused pharmacy in Hartford's West End, family-run since 1989. That means real patient relationships instead of a corporate script, and a small team where your work is visible — not lost in a national chain's staffing rotation. Every prescription that goes out the door is reviewed by a licensed pharmacist, and every pharmacist on staff knows a meaningful share of the patients they're filling for by name.
What we look for
We're not hiring for one narrow task. Because Arrow is a small, independent operation, most roles here touch more of the pharmacy's work than the equivalent position would at a chain — a technician might help with a compounding order one day and a delivery run the next; a pharmacist administering a flu shot in the morning might spend the afternoon walking a specialty patient through a new regimen. Across every role, we're looking for:
- Current Connecticut licensure or certification for the role you're applying for, or active progress toward it.
- Comfort talking directly with patients — explaining a medication change, answering a nervous question, or following up on a side effect — not just processing a transaction.
- Adaptability. A small team means fewer people covering more ground; we value people willing to help wherever the day needs it.
- Reliability. Patients depend on us for time-sensitive medication — punctuality and follow-through matter more here than almost anywhere else in retail.
Roles we hear from candidates about
We're generally interested in hearing from people in these roles, though we don't always have an opening in every category:
- Licensed pharmacists — Connecticut-licensed, comfortable with both dispensing and direct patient counseling.
- Pharmacy technicians — certified or in the process of certification, comfortable with a fast-paced independent-pharmacy workflow.
- Delivery staff — reliable local drivers for our free next-day delivery service across the greater Hartford area.
What working here is like
Working at an independent pharmacy is a different job than working the counter at a chain. You'll see more of the business end to end — compounding a custom formulation, administering an immunization, coordinating a specialty patient's prior authorization, helping a discharged hospital patient get sorted through our Meds to Go partnership with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Decisions get made by the people actually in the building, not escalated to a regional office, and the owner is someone you'll work alongside day to day, not a name on a corporate memo.
